Activities

Workpackage list

The project is organised with 5 subprojects, and 5 integrative activities. Sub-projects (SP) are intended to carry on specific work, producing tangible results; integrative actions (IA) are important additional activities, that can produce additional results and allow the project to be effectively carried on.

An introductory Work-package 0 is introduced to analyse and define clustering activities to be shared with the other projects approved under the “Culture and Tourism” priority of the EUMEDIS programme.

The main aim of the project is to build a portal, the “MEDINA Portal”, that will promote the culture oriented tourism across several Mediterranean countries. Culture is intended here in a broad sense, including not only traditional areas as figurative arts, architecture and similar, but also traditions, way of life, food, etc.
The project will try to emphasise and to outline the common cultural background that ties together several Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestinian Authority, Syria, Tunisia), in a number of interesting ways.
The MEDINA Portal will allow both thematic and geographical clustering of cultural and tourist resources. Single resources and tourist networks will be provided on a geographical basis in each country and across the Mediterranean countries, with particular reference to those involved in the project.
The MEDINA Portal will promote “Cultural tourism thematic pathways” that will bring the user to a “virtual visit” across several countries, logically grouping most relevant heritage on a specific subject and providing related cultural and tourist information. For details and further understanding of local issues, the portal will act as a gateway toward the national Websites. The national Websites will allow the users to “virtually navigate” within each country, obtaining details and local information, organised according to local needs.
Both the national Websites and the MEDINA Portal will describe the main point of interest from a cultural-tourism point of view. They will not include direct information about tourism related services (booking, ticketing, etc.), but they will act as gateways toward relevant service providers (within each county and/or at international level).

From an organisational point of view the project is structured in an effective iterative way:
A first cycle of 2 years will produce a full set of results, for each different activity; at the end of this first cycle direct experimentation of the national Websites and the portal will allow a precise assessment of the quality and the usefulness of the results.
A second cycle of 1 year will allow to improve the quality and the completeness of the results in each different aspect.

This project is co-funded by the European Union.
